HO-scale GMD-1 Diesel Locomotive from Rapido Trains
An iconic Canadian first-generation diesel locomotive is the four-axle GMD-1 prototype. Rapido Trains has set an October 16, 2023 deadline for reservations for a new production of HO-scale GMD-1 diesel locomotive models planned for 2024 delivery.
The HO replica will again include a heavy die-cast frame with piping detail, accurate Flexicoil trucks, separately applied grab irons on the plastic body shell, plows or footboards (depending on the prototype) on pilots, and more. The release will come in standard DC edition ($239.95) and with ESU LokSound audio for DCC versions ($349.95). The audio files will provide accurate sounds for original GMD-1s and later rebuilt units. Bought by Canadian National (CN), the coming release will cover 1900-series green as-delivered (1958 and 1959), and 1960s and later “wet noodle” repaints with red cab/nose with black body and red ends with black body schemes. The rebuilt GMD-1 will be represented by stripes scheme 1400-series units. Rapido plans Waterloo Central and Oregon Pacific GMD-1, if ample interest and reservations are placed by the mid-October deadline.
